Ablatherm Fusion

Non-invasive ablation of prostate tissue

The Ablatherm® Fusion device has been developed since 1993 on Prostate Cancer patients and is currently indicated in the US for ablation of prostate tissue. It is suitable for men who are at risk for surgery due to their age or other associated illnesses, or who may not want to undergo surgery. It allows for the targeted ablation of prostate tissue from MRI/Biopsies target localization.

Description

Two Modules, One Probe

  • Ablatherm 3-4-smallThe treatment module
  • The control module
  • The probe with both treatment and imaging transducers

HIFUsion: MRI and targeted biopsies import and fusion

  • MRI Images Importhifusion-red-web
  • Biopsies maps import
  • Elastic fusion to automatically match the 3D contours of the prostate on the MRI and/or biopsy map with the scanned ultrasound images
  • Real-time tracking and adjustment of the energy delivered

HIFU Technology

  • Unitary lesion of 19 to 24 mm height by 1.7 mm width
  • Automatic dispatching of the HIFU lesions
  • Accurate destruction of the tissue with precise robotic movements
  • Real-time tracking and adjustment of the energy delivered

Automatic Safety features

Treatment

Patient installation

Ablatherm full-smallAfter a local or general anesthetic is administered, the patient lies down on his right-hand side (right lateral decubitus) and stays in this position throughout the procedure.

3-steps non invasive robotic procedure

Patients undergoing Ablatherm® Fusion HIFU treatment are given a general or spinal anesthetic. A probe is introduced in the rectum and the imaging transducer starts the gland scanning to plan the treatment. The ultrasound is fused with previous MRI and/or 3D biopsy map in order to localize the target. The treatment transducer then emits high intensity focused, ultrasound in the prostate gland. At the point where the ultrasound waves are focused the absorption of the ultrasound beam creates a sudden temperature increase (around 185°F) which destroys the tissue in the targeted zone.

  1. 3D imaging and image fusion for target localization (MRI is fused with ultrasound)
  2. Treatment planning (fully adjustable treatment parameters to perform targeted ablation)
  3. Robotic targeted ablation (robotic ablation of the targeted tissue following the treatment plan)
